Badalya

Is the word for food in the Dharug dialect - the language spoken of traditional owners of the land where Ashfield Public School sits. By naming our canteen Badalya, we pay our respects to Aboriginal people past and present.

Having a daily canteen was an initiative undertaken by Ashfield Public School P&C who believed it was important to have a canteen that served healthy food in sustainable packaging for our school population. Now under the care and management of Yuko, the P&C is proud of our achievement and the school community really values the delicious home made food she offers.

We acknowledge the Gadigal and Wangal peoples of the Eora nation - the traditional owners of the land in which we live and work. We recognise their continuing connection to the land and waters of this beautiful place, and acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded.
